This policy explains, in plain English, what SubLetU collects, what we do with it, and who can see it.

SubLetU is a sublet listing and messaging platform for Syracuse University students, operated by SubLetU LLC. Questions about privacy? Email us at info@subletu.net.

We collect only what the app needs to work:

  • Account info: your sign-in email, your name, and, if you sign in with Google, the name and email on that Google account. You can optionally add a phone number, major, and profile photo to your profile.
  • School email: the @syr.edu email address you confirm, and when you confirmed it. This is what lets you post listings and message other users.
  • Listings: what you post, including title, description, price, dates, room and bathroom counts, amenities, photos, and the street address of the listing.
  • Messages: the text, photos, and PDFs you send through in-app messaging, plus who sent them and when.
  • Reports: the reason and any comments you include when you report a listing or a conversation.
  • Saved listings: stored on your profile so the Saved page works.
  • Alert preferences: if you opt in to new-listing alerts, the listings that match your preferences, so we can email you a digest.
  • Basic technical logs: our hosting provider keeps standard logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to run and secure the service.
  • Feedback: the message you send through the Feedback form, its type, the page you were on, your browser info, and your email (typed in if you're not signed in).

We do not collect payment details — SubLetU is free and never processes payments. We do not ask for student IDs and do not collect ID photos.

We use this information to:

  • Create and run your account.
  • Confirm your @syr.edu email so you can post and message.
  • Publish your listings after they are approved.
  • Deliver messages between users.
  • Send emails related to your account: sign-up verification codes, password resets, school-email confirmation codes, listing review decisions, message notifications, and new-listing alert digests if you opted in.
  • Reading and responding to feedback to improve SubLetU.
  • Review reported listings or conversations and prevent abuse.
  • Keep the service secure and working.

We do not use your data to advertise to you, and we do not sell it.

  • Listings are public: anyone can browse approved, active listings without signing in.
  • Street addresses are not public. They are shown only to signed-in users who have confirmed an @syr.edu email, and to us.
  • Messages are private between you and the person you're talking with. We do not monitor conversations. We review a conversation only when someone reports it or when the law requires it.
  • Other users see your name on your listings and messages. Your email address is not shown to other users.
  • Reports are visible only to us.

We do not sell personal data, ever. We share data only with:

  • Service providers that run the app for us: our hosting platform (Base44), which provides hosting, the database, file storage for photos and message attachments, sign-in, and email delivery.
  • Google, if you use the "Sign in with Google" button, to confirm who you are.
  • An address-autocomplete service, which receives the text you've typed into an address field to suggest full addresses.
  • Authorities, only when the law requires it or to respond to a valid legal request.

We keep your information while your account is active. Listings stay until you remove them.

There is no in-app account deletion. To delete your account and the data connected to it, email info@subletu.net and we will take care of it.

We use reasonable measures to protect your data, including private storage for things like listing addresses and message attachments. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

SubLetU is for people 17 and older (see our Terms of Service). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 17.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.

SubLetU is a technology platform where Syracuse students post and find sublets. SubLetU is not a landlord, property manager, real estate broker, agent or payment intermediary. We don't recommend, negotiate or verify listings, and we're not part of any transaction. All communication, agreements and payments happen between users, who are responsible for following their lease terms, university policies and the law.
